most of us will know the story that the plastic straw is banned to save the turtle. But is that the real reason turtles and other animals in the ocean are dying?
except from the famous video about one turtle with a plastic straw in its nose i could not find more stories about the plastic straw. What is a way bigger and also more unknown problem are ghost nets (fishing nets that are left in the ocean by fishing boats. Every year 650 000 marine animals are killed by ghost nest every year. This problem is not as known and is also not a big focus in ocean life protection

Whale hunting
In the Faroe Islands there is a tradition where the local people hunt whales. This was critiqued by media a lot. On average they kill around 800 pilot whales a year. This is done in a relatively sustainably way. This is something that got a lot of attention and critique. If you compare that to the almost 90% of global marine fish stocks are fully exploited or overfished. the question i asked myself is if we should really focus all our attention at stopping the hunting in the Faroe islands while the overfishing continues.
